Offseason Trips Now Available

From March until May we will be doing discounted offseason naturalist guided wildlife tours, leaving Deer Harbor Marina at 1PM for about a 2.5 hour trip.  There are lots of different things to see on the trip, including the huge endangered Steller sea lions that are here now. They are busy feeding trying to bulk up for the challenge of being the ‘top dog’ when they get back to their breeding sights. We only see the male Steller sea lions here in the Spring. The females usually dont travel as far from their rookery.

Lots of bald eagles are here now, of which some are resident to here and some are migrating through. Exciting times in the eagle world when the resident eagles feel compelled  to defend their territory with the migrating eagles.  We usually get the opportunity to witness magnificent aerial displays between competing eagles .

Dall’s and harbor porpoises are sighted routinely on our offseason trips. You’ll see large numbers of harbor porpoises not far from Deer Harbor where they reside year round.

Harbor seals are seen without having to leave the harbor. These numerous mammals are the most common sightings during one of our offseason trips. Also sometimes sighted at the marina are river otters usually seen in the morning and/or evening.

Bird watchers should be ready for a varied amount of sea birds, some still here from Winter, some just getting here to breed through the Summer. Very exciting!

Orca whales are sighted during the early Spring months as well, not quite as much as during the late Spring and  Summer months. We see both resident and transient orca but sporadically which is why we don’t have the whales as a focus of our trips now. If the whales are here we’ll know about it and go see them too.

Give us a call or email us to get up to date sightings and dates of trip departures.
