ARE WE BACK TO NORMAL YET?

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

Sounds like J Pod and some of L pod are making their way in to the islands from the Pacific. Finally we will have J pod back after having them vanish for over two weeks. There are also some L pod whales with the J’s. These are the same L pod whales that came in a few days ago and then went west some time last night, most likely to meet up with J pod.

It’s been a frustrating and different June so far. J pod has been out of the area since June 2nd. We haven’t seen most of K pod and L pod yet. Two weeks ago K-20 and her calf K-38 showed up here by themselves. They hooked up with the L-12’s and have been seen with them the last few days. There are a few reports of many King salmon out west which is most likely why J pod stayed out there so long. Now that we’ve had a little rain, hopefully the salmon will find their way back to the rivers as they pass through the islands.
Let’s hope for some normal behaviors and routines from awhile, or at least close to it. But then again, what is normal?
