Superpod Sightings

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Long time between posts. We are approaching the end of our daily trip season, which is hard to believe after a very busy successful season. The orca sightings have been on and off during the month of October. What’s been really cool is the sightings have been a superpod, J, K, and L pod traveling together. With this late October beautiful weather, we have had a wonderful combination of whales and weather.

I’d like to bring to your attention an excellent website called www.orcasound.net . From this website you can listen in on various hydrophones stationed up and down the west side of San Juan Island. Last night I happened to listen in and the superpod (J,K and L pod) were vocalizing like crazy, tremendous sounds! We have a trip today, hopefully the whales are still around.

With the orcasound website, and the whale sighting website called www.orcanetwork.org you’ll be able to keep up with sightings and sounds of the southern residents through the winter months.

We’ll be operating all winter this year, doing wildlife and birdwatching trips when and if the weather permits. Our whale watch season will begin again in April. I will be posting any news, gossip or opinions on this website during our off season.
